IPL 2021: Shreyas Iyer expects complete fitness before tournament resumption, unsure regarding captaincy

Indian middle-order batsman Shreyas Iyer suffered a terrible fate after he partially dislocated his shoulder in March 2021, during the limited-overs series against England. As a result, he was ruled out for the 2021 Indian Premier League, thus missing out on serving Delhi Capitals. However, the tournament was suspended mid-way following multiple bubble breaches due to COVID-19. At the same time, it is expected to resume in September-October and would be played in the United Arab Emirates. Consequently, it has given ample time for Iyer to recover and feature for the side in the season remaining. On the same note, he has asserted that he expects to be completely fit by the time IPL 2021 resumes and would be hoping to serve DC. "So that's going to take about a month, and the training is obviously going on. Other than that, I feel I will be there in the IPL," he told 'The Grade Cricketer' Podcast. However, on being asked if the leadership duties would be restored to him, he was unsure about it. "I don't know about the captaincy. It's in the hands of the owners. But, the team has already been doing well, and we are on top, and that's what really matters to me. My main goal is to lift the trophy, which Delhi has never done before," he concluded. DC has done outstanding this season under Pant, while it is currently placed atop the table, having won six of the eight games so far. DC would be eyeing its maiden IPL title this season, finishing as the runner-up last season to Mumbai Indians.
