In what proves to be a significant dominance by Ritu Phogat, she outlasted Lin Heqin in the BATTLEGROUND event of the ONE CHAMPIONSHIP on Friday night. After the three rounds, Phogat secured the win through unanimous judges decisions. In Phogat's first bout since May 2021, she returned in style, using her excellent grappling skills that overpowered Lin. She pinned her to the ground and landed blows on her from various angles, hardly giving her opponent any chance to defend or counter back. Following the bout, all three judges ruled the decision in favour of the Indian. Furthermore, it also ended Lin's 11-match winning streak. But, I didn't let that affect me; I focused on my skills and game plan to defeat her. Midway through the match, I realised that the double-leg takedown wasn't working for me, so I improvised and switched to a single-leg takedown. Even when she stood up after the first round, I wasn't taken aback because I was confident that I was moving the needle in the right direction." she told ONE. "I credit my success to everyone in India who have been rooting for me, praying for me and endlessly loving me. My wins are a result of their unwavering support. I want to thank them immensely for inspiring and motivating me each day to settle for nothing less than a win. I owe every supporter big time! I promise to fly the Indian flag up and high at ONE," she concluded. The win should put Phogat in the championship title contenders recognition. She needed the win following her previous bout loss to Bi Nguyen, while her current MMA record stands 5-1.
