Antilia bomb scare case: NIA seizes phones from jailed IM chief

The National Investigation Agency (NIA) team probing the Antilia bomb scare case outside industrialist Mukesh Ambani’s Mumbai residence has taken into possession two cellphones recovered from Tehseen Akhtar, the alleged chief of the Indian Mujahideen, who is lodged in Tihar Jail. Akhtar has accepted that the phones belong to him, but has denied sending messages claiming responsibility for the incident. The NIA collected the phones from the Special Cell of the Delhi Police and is now looking into evidence against a senior officer of the Mumbai police. Once the evidence is analysed the NIA is likely to arrest the senior police officer. Jaish-Ul-Hind, a terror outfit, had taken the responsibility of placing explosives in the SUV outside Ambani's house. Akhtar is thought to have taken over as head of the IM after the arrest of its co-founder Yasin Bhatkal in 2013, and is likely one of the accused within the Mumbai blasts of 2011. The telephones were recovered from his barracks through a seek operation by the Tihar Jail government in conjunction with the New Delhi Range of Delhi Police Special Cell on March 11. “Police found that the cellphones were being used by him since October. The Tihar Jail administration also conducted an internal inquiry to ascertain how he got the cellphones, but they failed to identify anyone,” a senior jail official said. Earlier, The Indian Express had reported that a non-public cyber company deployed by way of an investigating company had tracked the site of the telephones from which the messages have been despatched to Tihar Jail, and this was communicated to the Delhi Police Special Cell. In this case several police officers including Sachin Waze, Riyaz Kazi, Sunil Mane, Pradeep Sharma and Vinayak Shinde have been placed under arrest. Santosh Shelar, a history-sheeter, his aide Naresh Gaur, Anand Jhadav Santosh Mothkuri and Manish Soni are also under arrest in the same case. The policemen are accused of involvement within the conspiracy to plant explosives close to the Ambani place of abode in an SUV, and the next homicide of a person related to the automobile.
