Hours after the Taliban claimed that they entered the Panjshir province from various directions, the resistance forces in the province rejected the Taliban claims. According to a report by Tolo News, supporters of Resistance leader Ahmad Massoud rejected the claims of a Taliban advance toward Panjshir and said no one entered the province. “There is no fight in Panjshir and no one has entered the province,” the Tolo News report quoted Mohammad Almas Zahid, head of the Resistance Front delegation, as saying. Meanwhile, The Taliban had claimed earlier that their fighters entered Panjshir from different directions. “No fighting occurred, but the mujahideen of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan advanced from various directions without facing any resistance. The Islamic Emirate forces have entered Panjshir from different directions,” said Anaamullah Samangani, a member of the Taliban’s Cultural Commission, Tolo News reported. For a long time, fighters in Panjshir have prevented the capture of the region from Taliban terrorists by firing a heavy machine gun into a deep valley from the top of the rocky mountain. The Taliban have been unable to take this major holdout of resistance after steamrolling across pro-government troops in a matter of months. These fighters are from the National Resistance Front (NRF), the remaining strongest force after the siege of Kabul by the Taliban. After the Taliban took control of Kabul on August 15, there have been flickers of resistance in some pockets of Afghanistan like the Panjshir Valley. News agency AFP had reported that the movement’s spokesman Ali Maisam Nazary said the National Resistance Front (NRF) is prepared for a “long-term conflict” but is also still seeking to negotiate with the Taliban about an inclusive government.
