It was a heartbreak for the Indian women's hockey team that lost its bronze medal playoff at the Tokyo Olympics, losing 3-4 to Great Britain. It turned out to be India's joint-best finish at the Games to date, as it also finished fourth during the 1980 Moscow Olympics. Along with the women, it was also heartbreak for the fans and the nation. However, the Indian citizens backed their female warriors for putting up a valiant effort and show to entertain us all. Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi led the charge as he applauded the effort by the Indian women's hockey team. Other celebrities also followed him, as here are a few of the reactions and wishes that poured in: We will always remember the great performance of our Women’s Hockey Team at #Tokyo2020. They gave their best throughout. Each and every member of the team is blessed with remarkable courage, skill and resilience. India is proud of this outstanding team. — Narendra Modi (@narendramodi) August 6, 2021 We narrowly missed a medal in Women’s Hockey but this team reflects the spirit of New India- where we give our best and scale new frontiers.
