Tokyo Olympics: Sports Minister Anurag Thakur hails PV Sindhu as 'one of India's greatest Olympians'

Top Indian badminton star PV Sindhu did manage to live to her reputation as she bagged the bronze medal at the Tokyo Olympics. It was India's second medal in the competition, while it was also her second Olympic medal, after the 2016 Rio Olympics silver. On Tuesday, she returned to India and was given a warm welcome. Meanwhile, Sports Minister Anurag Thakur rated her as a sporting icon for the country, terming her as 'one of India's greatest Olympians'. "PV Sindhu is amongst India's greatest Olympians. She is India's icon, inspiration and has caught the imagination of every Indian who dreams of playing for the country. Her incredible achievement of winning two Olympic medals in two consecutive Olympic Games will inspire a generation of budding athletes," he said. "I would like to thank each one of my fans because of the support, and though we played without fans in the stadium, I am sure billions have supported me from India, and this success is the result of their wishes. I want to thank my parents for their constant support and scarifies and my coach for working with me and making this dream come true," she said. Besides Thakur, other ministers also felicitated Sindhu, which included Nirmala Sitharaman (Finance Minister), G Kishan Reddy (Minister of Culture and Tourism), Nisith Pramanik (Minister of State of Youth Affairs and Sports).
