Trichy assault rifle now has a grenade launcher option

Tiruchirappalli-based Ordnance Factory has launched 40X46 mm Under Barrel Grenade Launcher for Trichy Assault Rifle and AK-47 rifles, giving an impetus to the government ambitious 'Aatmanirbhar Bharat' initiative.  Developed through in-house research and development at Tiruchirappalli, the 40X46 mm UBGL can be attached to the Trichy Assault Rifle, an indigenously developed assault rifle, which the Central Reserve Police Force and the state police forces have inducted. The UBGL is compatible with in-service AK-47 rifles also for the purpose of launching high explosive grenades at enemy targets. Its range is 400 meters and weighs about 1.6 Kg. The Under Barrel Grenade Launcher is a single shot, breech-loaded launcher intended for increasing the firepower drastically by using a variety of grenades. As per the company statement, the soldier will have an option to fire both TAR/AK-47 bullets and explosive grenades at enemy troops to destroy and prevent them from marching forward.   The 40mm UBGL is very useful in combat actions and counter-terrorist operations for infantry, special forces, law enforcement units and anti-Naxal and jungle warfare operations.  The 40mm UBGL can be easily attached to the rifle in less than a minute.   A few days back, the Ordnance Factory Tiruchirappalli had launched TriCa (Trichy Carbine), a mini model of the TAR. The 7.62 X 39 mm moveable weapon launched on the carbine platform weighs 3.17 kg and is lighter than the assault rifles. It is a compact weapon designed for the crews of infantry fight autos, helicopters, paratroopers, state police drives and particular operation forces. The weapon has an efficient vary of 150 to 175 metres.  TriCa can use ammunition and magazines, in addition to the interchangeable elements of basic assault rifles (TAR and AK-47).
