Trouble mounts for Union Minister Narayan Rane as two FIRs have been registered against him for his remarks about giving “a tight slap” to Maharashtra Chief Minister Uddhav Thackeray. He may also face arrest as the BJP leader claimed the latter’s ignorance of the year of India’s independence. While one of the complaints was registered in Pune on Tuesday, the other one was filed in Nashik. According to a report by ABP, Nashik city chief of Shiv Sena Sudhakar Badgujar filed a case against Rane in Nashik, after which the police have reportedly issued an arrest warrant against Narayan Rane. Another FIR was registered under sections 153 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code at the Chaturshringi Police Station of Pune city, following a complaint by Yuva Sena, according to news agency ANI. Rane kicked up a storm with his statement that is likely to spiral into a bigger controversy, while addressing a Jan Ashirvad Yatra of the BJP in Raigad district on Monday. Addressing the gathering Monday, Rane said had he been present at the spot, he would have slapped CM Uddhav Thackeray as he forgot the year of independence during his August 15 address to the people of the state. According to report on Hindustan Times, Rane said, “It is shameful that the chief minister does not know the year of independence. He leaned back to enquire about the count of years of independence during his speech. Had I been there, I would have given (him) a tight slap.” He added that Thackeray had to check the year of independence with his aides midway during the speech that day. The rivalry between Shiv Sena and Narayan Rane has been simmering from years since he quit Sena in 2005 and years later merged with the saffron party. the ruling Shiv Sena sharply retorted to Rane’s remarks as workers put up several posters in Mumbai and other places, calling him a ‘kombdi chor’ (chicken stealer), referring to the poultry shop he ran in Chembur five decades ago, during his initial stint with the Bal Thackeray-led party.
