EPL 2021-22, Matchday 5: Manchester City held goalless; Arsenal, Liverpool produce favourable results

The 2021-22 English Premier League is conducting its Matchday 5 commitments, while a few top matches were played on Saturday, involving defending champion Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool. Let us take a look at the results of these ties.

City held to a shocking goalless draw at home by Southampton
Second-placed City was up against 15th-placed Southampton at the Etihad Stadium and was a clear favourite to win. However, the visitor displayed enthralling gameplay, hardly allowing the host to develop a promising attack, despite having more shot attempts and having dominated with possession.

Arsenal edged past Burnley
As it is picking up pace, Arsenal's horrific start to the season seems to be getting nullified. On Saturday, it travelled to take on 19th-placed Burnley, as the opening half saw three attacking attempts before Martin Odegaard fired in the eventual winner in the 30th minute. Smith Rowe produced a final attack in the half to nearly double Gunners' lead but was 1-0 at half-time.

The second half saw three attacks until the 59th minute before the Clarets earned a penalty nine minutes later. However, the penalty was saved while the rebound was shot wide, as a couple of more attacks were no avail, with Arsenal claiming the three points at the full-time whistle.

Liverpool dominates Crystal Palace
Liverpool came up with an emphatic performance to tame 14th-placed Palace at Anfield. It was an easy ride for The Reds, as seven attempts were made by the 38th minute before Sadio Mane put it ahead in the 43rd minute, leading 1-0 at half-time.

After a couple of chances by the 72nd minute in the second half, Mohamed Salah doubled the lead, thanks to Virgil van Dijk's assist in the 78th minute. Eleven minutes later, Naby Keita fired in the winner, as Liverpool has shot up to the top spot, for now.
