IPL 2021, PBKS vs SRH: A look at the record scripted as Punjab sneaks past Hyderabad by 5 runs

It was a thrilling performance from Punjab Kings as it surpassed SunRisers Hyderabad by five runs in an IPL 2021 clash on Saturday. Meanwhile, the low-scoring tie produced quite some records.

In what turned out to be a thriller, Punjab Kings (PBKS) came up with a composed performance to edge past former champion Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in Match 37 of the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2021 at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium on Saturday. Having registered a five-run win, PBKS continues to be in contention for the playoffs, as some records have been achieved.

PBKS scores some lowests
- PBKS could manage just 29/2 within the powerplay, as it became the second-lowest PP score at Sharjah in the tournament.
- Also, it was its fifth-lowest total in the tournament this season, batting first (125/7), with the lowest being 92 by Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in Abu Dhabi.

SRH scripts lowest too
- Meanwhile, SRH could manage just 20/2 at the end of the PP. It happens to be its lowest in tournament's history, going past its 21/3 against Rajasthan Royals (RR) in 2013.
- It was also the lowest target that SRH failed to chase down in its IPL history.
- SRH is the first side since Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) in 2009 to lose eight of its opening nine games.

PBKS records a top one
On the other hand, PBKS successfully defended the paltry target, while it happened to be its second-lowest successful defence. Its lowest was 120 against Mumbai Indians (MI) in 2009.

Aiden Markram scripts a unique one
Markram scored just 27 tonight. It happens to be the joint-lowest highest individual score for a side batting first and winning an IPL match.

Match summary
Winning the toss, SRH opted to field, as the decision seemed good, restricting PBKS to a trivial total of 125/7, with pacer Jason Holder claiming three. However, in reply, it became even tough for SRH batters, with the pitch slowing down, despite Holder's unbeaten 47, as spinner Ravi Bishnoi too claimed a three-for, while PBKS pulled it off by five runs in the final ball.
Brief scores: PBKS 125/5 (Markram- 27; Holder- 3/19) defeats SRH 120/7 (Saha- 31, Holder- 47*; Bishnoi- 3/24) by five runs.
