Mumbai's under construction flyover collapses, 14 people injured

A major accident was reported from the financial capital of India Mumbai as an under construction collapsed leaving 14 injured.

The incident happened at Bandra East as a flyover of Bandra Kurla Complex collapsed in early hours on Friday.

According to Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation, all the 14 injured persons who have been rushed to the hospital are said to be safe and the injuries are not life-threatening.

The reports say that a portion of the under-construction bridge collapsed around 4:30 am. The bride once completed will connect Santa Cruz-Chembur Link Road and Bandra Kulra Complex Main  Road.

Immediately fire tenders and police rushed and the injured were taken to a nearby hospital.

The officials deployed at the bride collapse spot are clearing the debris and also searching if any person is trapped under the debris.

As traffic was expected to swell during peak hours due to office goers hitting the streets with their vehicles, the officials have diverted the traffic and have installed caution tapes at the site.

The injured by and large are daily wage workers and BMC is monitoring their conditions and is likely to foot the bill for treatment.

The scene resembles 2018's Varanasi's bridge collapse in which 18 people lost life. Following the incident, the project manager was suspended.

Two weeks ago, a similar incident happened in Madurai after an under construction flyover collapsed and resulted in one worker's death. Following the incident, an FIR was registered against three people due to negligence.
